While in that report, I stated that the bug appears with all styles other than Oxygen, it is particularly bad with bespin.

    Looks like an antialiasing/kerning issue.
Bespin does not draw those elements at all, though - there could only be some weird invocation of some style hint or relation to specific pixelmetrics.

    a) can you provide a comparism shot (ie. what it looks like for you on oxygen)
    b) what fontconfig settings do you use (for the font) esp. reg. the hinting style and whether the autohinter is used?

Actually, it appears its just as bad with the other styles (except Oxygen), but the other styles seem to have a lower vertical height (despite all settings being identical), so the bug is less visible.

And that last post (20:18 UTC on 29-Sept-2013) was by me.

    Guessed so :)
Nevertheless i'm more curious about a comparism shot and details on font rasterizing settings.
Also: does it happen when running either "kquitapp plasma-desktop; plasma-desktop --graphicssystem native" or "kquitapp plasma-desktop; plasma-desktop --graphicssystem raster" only?

It happens with both raster and native (though worse with native due to the other font rendering bug in the native graphics system). I have hinting set to slight, and subpixel rendering on (rgb). The attached screenshots are with Source Sans Pro, so the autohinter is not used, and FreeType is using the Adobe CFF engine (though I believe the bug also appears with the old CFF engine).
