When I restore a empty partition of 500GB (ext4), CloneZilla make 9mn to do this step, outch! I've worried if I need to restore our 5 disks server. is this time usual? -- Sebastien Douche <sd...@gm...> Twitter: http://bit.ly/afkrK (agile, lean, python, open source) |

Hi, Can you help me how can I enter the sublibrary for the image when recovering? The program offers only the top library but my image was replaced into a 'clonezilla.images' library. Thanks, Zoltan -- http://mbicomp.com/ |

It's possible you can do that on the server side, but for Clonezilla live you have to manually tune that. I believe it's easier to use multicast function to make it if the image is universal for all kinds of machines. This release of Clonezilla live (1.2.5-17) includes major enhancements, changes and bug fixes. MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS and CHANGES: * This release was created by live-helper 2.0~a11-1drbl1, and live-initramfs 1.215.1-1drbl-1 is used. * A version with pure AMD64 (X86-64) programs was created in this release. It can support large partition (e.g. 10 TB) imaging. * The Linux kernel was updated to 2.6.32-12. * Partclone was updated to 0.2.9. It has been reported that the speed of this version is much faster than the previous one. * Package memtest86+ was updated to 4.10. * Package syslinux was updated to 3.86. * Package pbzip2 was updated to 1.1.1, and it's the default program for running bzip2 compression and decompression in parallel. * Package gzrt was added. * Boot parameter "nomodeset" was added with vga=normal to avoid using framebuffer mode in safe graphic mode. BUG FIXES * VGA failsafe mode was not working. * A harmless warning message when running grub2 installation after Ubuntu Lucid is restored was fixed * Suppress and avoid the error message when getting data from EDD. * A NFS locking issue found in Clonezilla live 1.2.5-15 was fixed. -- Steven Shiau <steven _at_ nchc org tw> <steven _at_ stevenshiau org> National Center for High-performance Computing, Taiwan. http://www.nchc.org.tw Public Key Server PGP Key ID: 1024D/9762755A Fingerprint: A2A1 08B7 C22C 3D06 34DB F4BC 08B3 E3D7 9762 755A |

I've heard that Clonezilla now supports imaging of the VMware file system. We're looking at cloning an ESXi/Vsphere box from an HP DL385 G5 to an HP DL385 G6 which will have more CPUs, RAM, disks, etc. We're looking for any best practices/HOWTO information on the best way to handle this. Our #1 priority is speed to clone the source ESXi/Vsphere box to the new target destination. Does Clonezilla support the ability to bond two or more Nicks for performance? Thanks in advance for your help. If you are not the intended recipient we request that you notify us via email or telephone and delete all copies of the message from your systems. Additionally, although DemandTec has taken reasonable precautions to ensure the security of this email and any attachments, we encourage you to take similar precautions and accept no liability for any loss or damage resulting from its use. Hi Steven.
Even with Clonezilla live 1.2.5-15 it doesn't work
Before the window "Start Clonezilla..." is shown, for just a moment I
can see the message "Failed to load
keymap...".
But If I enter command line prompt and write:
loadkeys it
it works..
bye
Massimo

So we lied. Sorry. Due to a NFS lockd issue, we have to postpone this stable release, and it will take a few days to release another testing one, then the final stable release. I believe it will take another 1 to 2 weeks. Steven. Hello everyone, I'm a little rusty on this area of linux/unix, but I wondered if anyone has been able to get Clonezilla-live to work on the Mac. I have a firewire/USB 1TB external drive that I've partitioned so that it has a 1GB FAT32 partition and two Mac "journaled" partitions. I've following the instructions listed at http://www.clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/livehd.php But the entire process fails for me when I try to run makeboot.sh: I get something like "parted was not found on this GNU/Linux system". I understand that OSX is a FreeBSD variant, but I have not been able to get the necessary software in place to get the script to run to completion. Hello when I use clonezilla live 1.2.1-39 and set on boot parameters: ocs_live_keymap="usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/it.kmap.gz" ocs_lang="it_IT.UTF-8" all it's ok. My keyboard works well. But when I use clonezilla live 1.2.4-28 and set the same values on boot parameters: ocs_live_keymap="usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/it.kmap.gz" ocs_lang="it_IT.UTF-8" my keyboard doesn't work well. I type " - " and I see " / " I type " \ " and I see " ' " etc etc... What's wrong ? thank you Massimo |

If I need to clone and then resize the partition, how long does that take? I think it is basically no time, worst case the amount of time it takes to write a new inode table. Below is all the details I have. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Larry Garfield <la...@ga...> Date: Wed, May 12, 2010 at 9:29 PM Subject: Re: [LUNI] Hard drive upgrade To: "Linux Users Of Northern Illinois (Chicago) - Technical Discussion" <lu...@lu...> On Wednesday 12 May 2010 10:26:38 am Greg Neumarke wrote: > As mentioned by others here, clonezilla has worked for me many times in > scenarios like this. If I need to clone and then resize the partition, how long does that take? The last time I did partition resizing (which admittedly was a long time ago), it was an obscenely slow process; to the point that it would be faster to reconfigure the entire server and transfer existing files by floppy than to resize the partitions in place. Has the process gotten faster in recent years? Figuring a 320 GB drive with 200 GB of data cloning to a 1 TB drive, all ext3, how much time am I looking at, vague ballpark? Go get coffee? Go get dinner? Go get a second Masters degree? :-) --Larry Garfield -- Linux Users Of Northern Illinois (Chicago) - Technical Discussion http://luni.org/mailman/listinfo/luni -- Carl K |

Clonezilla live 1.2.5-15 is planned as the next stable release on May 18, 2010 This release of Clonezilla live includes major enhancements and bug fixes. MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS: * This release was created by live-helper 2.0~a11-1drbl1, and live-initramfs 1.215.1-1drbl-1 is used. -- Steven Shiau <steven _at_ nchc org tw> <steven _at_ stevenshiau org> National Center for High-performance Computing, Taiwan. http://www.nchc.org.tw Public Key Server PGP Key ID: 1024D/9762755A Fingerprint: A2A1 08B7 C22C 3D06 34DB F4BC 08B3 E3D7 9762 755A |

Hello I'm a beginner in using Linux and Clonezilla live My question is this: Is there a way to set my default value in clonezilla live ? For example: Every time that starts clonezilla live I write the IP,the user and folder for my samba server. Is it possible pre-set this value ? thank you Massimo |

Yes it will ask you which partition you want to restore. That?s the difference between ?saveparts? and ?savedisk?. ______________________________________________ >Hi, > >What happens if I chose expert mode/saveparts, and tick 2 partitions not only one. for instance my destination is sda3 and I tick sda1 and sda2 as well when the >program asks me to chose which partition to clone. > >When comes to restoring will it ask me which one to which partition to restore? > >Thanks! > >Zoltan > >-- >http://mbicomp.com/ |

Hi, What happens if I chose expert mode/saveparts, and tick 2 partitions not only one. for instance my destination is sda3 and I tick sda1 and sda2 as well when the program asks me to chose which partition to clone. When comes to restoring will it ask me which one to which partition to restore? Thanks! Zoltan -- http://mbicomp.com/ |

But it seems that I should not have to do that. You can make it by: 1. Backup the image dir first just in case. 2. Change the file name, e.g. $IMAGENAME/hda2.xxx as $IMAGENAME/hda1.xxx 3. Change the contents of the file $IMAGENAME/part, i.e. change hda2 as hda1. Then you can try to restore the image to /dev/hda1. Of course, you have to deal with the boot.ini of MS Windwos after restoring.
