REDUCE transfer speed

    Hi all,

I know there have been many discussions about speeding Clonezilla up, but I am actually looking for a way to slow it down.

    Let me explain:

I am using Clonezilla to keep two backups of my computer hard disk. If anything goes wrong, I can simply swap in one of the backups in and I am back in business.

So far, I have been using 2TB spinning HDs. They gave me something like 5MB per second and took up to 12 hours to copy. This was awkward because I had to plan ahead for a time I would not need my laptop.

Then I recently upgraded to 4TB nvme SSDs, one of which is in my laptop and two are in external USB enclosures. They give me about 60MB per second and can be copied within about one hour. Great!

The only problem is: They are working at their maximum speed or a whole hour and get incredibly hot. I am worried that the heat will cause physical damage. I even tried wrapping a wet cloth about the metal cased external enclosure to try and dissipate more heat.

I was wondering if future versions of Clonezilla could have a speed adjuster. Instead of copying my 4TB in one hour, I would not mind waiting for two or three to keep the temperature down.

    Would this be possible?

    Many thanks.

    Ha, this is interesting.
Actually you might be able to throttle your CPU so that the speed can be reduced.
    https://wiki.debian.org/CpuFrequencyScaling
You can switch to console 2 (ctrl-alt-F2) and enter command line prompt,

    1. sudo su -i
    2. cpupower frequency-set -g powersave
      or
      cpufreq-set -f 1.2GHz
    3. Then back to console 1 by pressing ctrl-alt-F1 to continue Clonezilla TUI.
