When using Clonezilla Live to image partitions, how are non-contiguous partitions handled? I've got a fresh Windows 10 install that I'd like to fully image. In addition to the OS partitions, I've set up a data partition, which sits just before the Recovery partition that Windows put at the end of the drive (SSD). So there are 4 OS partitions, then the data partition, and finally the Recovery partition. I'd like to image the partitions, leaving out the data partition.
I see how to create the partition images procedurally, but how would restoration work? For instance, if I turned right around and restored all 5 OS partitions to this same drive, having made no changes to any partitions, would restoration simply put everything in its same place, leaving the data partition untouched?
Assuming that all-at-once method works, if I wanted instead to image a new drive with these 5 partition images, how would I first set up the drive - do I need to create all 6 partitions first? This is the part I've never been sure about with partition imaging: when creating the partitions to receive the images, how close do I have to correctly size them? Is there a 'safe' approach to sizing so as not to undersize a partition, or does it matter so long as any undersize mismatch isn't too large?
thanks in advance, Mike
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
When restoring an image which has multiple partitions, basically by default it does not create the partition table on the destination disk. It uses the exsiting one on the destination disk.
The images of the partitions will be restored to the original partitions, say if it's saved from /dev/sda1, then of course it will be restored to /dev/sda1, and the one saved from /dev/sda2 will be restored to /dev/sda2...
//NOTE// Backup important data before you use Clonezilla. Just in case.

Good to know that about the partition table, thanks.
