I am helping a friend migrate an OS from a hard drive to a solid state. I have used clonezilla like once in the past for work but still very new at this.
I tried a number of methods
dev to image. where I used the ssd as target and hdd as source. Cloned the entire 500gb drive to put on the 128gb ssd. Originally it complained about disk space being too low (from beginner mode), so I ended up using advance mode and selected icds to ignore the disk space check (since the hdd is brand new, besides the OS, nothing is on there, only 20gb has been used). After that is done, it is trying to restore the image on sdc1, and so forth, but clonezilla shows the 128 gb ssd as sdc. Could this be a bug?
2nd and last method I used was, storing that image to another external hard drive and plugged it onto my PC in my room and then use dev to image again, selecting samba share
IP is 192.168.1.9. The drive containing the image is the I drive. On samba, what should the full file path be and how would I mount that drive onto clonezilla so that I can use it to restore that image onto the ssd?

"but clonezilla shows the 128 gb ssd as sdc. Could this be a bug?" -> What did you mean? Did you think it should be shown as /dev/sdb? Or?
As for your 2nd question, here

you should choose "samba_server", then it will guide you to enter the required parameters. The path depends on your configuration on the MS Windows. Just give it a try.
//NOTE// Backup important data before you use Clonezilla. Just in case.
