    Hi,
I was wondering whether the CloneZilla Team were planning to include ext4 as a supported filing system sometime soon. I tried to clone Ubuntu Jaunty (ext4) a couple of weeks ago but CloneZilla switched to dd to copy it (which would have taken a long time and resulted in a very large file).

    Thanks.

    Later....

      Bob,
Not yet. We will release a stable Clonezilla live these days, then the next testing Clonezilla live will support it. Hope It will be in this week.

      Steven.

      Your work is much appreciated.

Ext4 supported is done in Clonezilla live 1.2.2. If you are interested, please give it a try. Since it's supported by partclone, please remember to enter "expert mode" and choose "-q2" option so it will work for your ext4 file system.

        Steven.

BTW, if Clonezilla live has the problem running grub-install after the image is restored, please try the exeprimental Clonezilla live 20090411-jaunty or later verson.

          Steven.

      Hi Steve

Following your recommendation, I've just tried Clonezilla live 20090413-jaunty

BUT, it still does not support Ext4. A message says EXT4 not supported, just dd will do, and we all know the drawbacks of dd:
      slow and big back-up file.

Any plan to do it on Clonezilla Jaunty? because appart from ext4 it works beautifully, Thx

        zz,
Actually it does support that. If you check the changelog:
        Clonezilla live 20090411-jaunty
          * Ext4 is supported by partclone now. Therefore if you want to save ext4 system, remember to enter expert mode and use option -q2 so that partclone will save your ext4 partition.

Now we are testing partclone and try to make it as a default option. For the time being, please manually select -q2 option.

        Steven.

          Hi Steve

Very sorry, it's all my fault, I selected the wrong line regarding "-q"

You're quite right it worked beautifully for save and restore, nothing lost, Thx for this marvelous tool.

Now I'll try again w/ this latest version to restore an enlarged partition, I'll keep you informed of course, and I'll make sure I activate -k1!!!!!!

          Bye, have a nice day

            zz,
No problem. We will switch to -q2 in the near future when partclone is stable enough. Hope it will be in the next stable release.

As for the resize the file system to meet the partition size, since /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-resize-part is not updated with ext4, we will check that and try to make it in the next release.

            Steven.

              Hi Steve

This is exactly what I found out: ext4 is not supported for this type of appli. I'll patiently wait for the improvement. Thx again
