Tried with 20150805 vivid and then 2.4.232 Stable - both panic. I have UEFI, but secure boot is disabled.

Tried UEFI and non UEFI boot options from SanDisk Cruzer 16GB USB. Tried USB2 and USB3 ports - each panics.

Tried Interactive check and repair and skipping - each panics.

Tried 2.4.232 Stable in "FailSafe" option, still panics.

Desktop is running recent Arch release, is stable, no known issues. I booted with "fsck.mode=force" kernel parameter to force a disk check, completed with no messages on the screen.

It's always failing on device /dev/sda3 - which is the system boot device, small at ~ 30GB. Unable to determine if its at the same spot each time. There is rapid scrolling of text on the screen every few seconds. The Elapsed timer, Remaining, Rate counters appear to keep updating (rate goes downward). No sign of disk activity or network activity (no flashing led).

    Steps I selected:

    • English.
    • Don't touch keymap.
    • Start Clonezilla
    • device-image
    • select nfs_server
    • DHCP (assigned by mac address, always gets same IP address).
    • NFS v2, v3
    • Enter IP of NFS server
    • Enter Mount of location.
    • Mode - Beginner
    • Select savedisk.
    • Enter image name
    • select "sda" (only drive) to backup.
    • Interactive check and repair
    • Yes, check the saved image.
    • Not to encrypt the image.
    • Select "y" to continue.

Did you try testing Clonezilla live, like 2.4.2-61 or 20151012-wily?
    http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
They come with newer Linux kernel, i.e. v4.2, so the results might be different.

I downloaded "20151012-wily" (clonezilla-live-20151012-wily-amd64.iso) and still get a panic message in the middle of /dev/sda3.

Is there anything useful in the panic screens to give a clue what is going on? If clonezilla did encounter a disk problem would it be expected to "trap" that condition and show a decent message? or is the panic type message expected? fsck is not finding a problem.

This is Linux kernel issue. How about Clonezilla live 2.4.2-61? It comes with different Linux kernel so the results might be different.

    Steven.
