I have been using Clonezilla Live 20140915-trusty amd64 with no problems.
Downloaded 21041208-utopic amd64 and the following happened.
(for backing up)
Initial screen display.
Pressed enter
Came back with the following
3.706841 usb 2-14 device descriptor read/64, error-32
moddprob:modvie vesafb not found in moduios.dep
Stayed on the screen for 20-30 seconds then continued.
Afer it completed (chose do nothing option) then choose reboot from the menu.
Hung after
stopping save sysgtem clock to hardware clock
live-boot caching reboot files
killing all remaining processes [fail]
alt+ctrl+del did not reboot - had to hold the power button in till shut off.
using an asus essentio series (desktop)
onboard vga
8 gigs ram
intel core i5

Looks like the Linux kernel/hardware support issue.
Maybe you can try the testing, alternative Clonezilla live: http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
They come with newer Linux kenrel, so it might help.
//NOTE// Backup important data before you use it.
