I would appreciate any change that means that HiDPI users will not have to do any squinting or at least not have to squint after having set an option the first time that they run CloneZilla.

No. However, it's possible you can manually tune that ATM.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
The font will be larger...

Will that change persist across reboots? If so, that's not too bad. If not, it's a problem.
No. It won't persist because this is live system.
BTW, in the future we will have a script to make that.
