On a brand new system -- Supermicro 7049P-TRT, X11DPi-NT motherboard -- booting from a thumbdrive with a Clonezilla live image, I get to the grub menu, then, no matter which option I choose, the grub menu is cleared, the screen is blank except for the background image, and nothing else happens. I've tried with a version of Clonezilla from 2014 and a recent 2018 download of the latest stable version. I have been able to use Clonezilla successfully on several other Supermicro platforms, including the X9DRG-QF and X10SRW-F, and with a Quadro K420 video adapter, but I can't get it to work here, not even in failsafe mode.

Removing 'nomodeset' did not change anything for me. I also tried removing 'modeset' 'quiet' and 'splash' with the same result. I saw no diagnostic information.

In that case we always enable Legacy boot mode in the BIOS when creating/restoring an image. After creating/restoring we change it back to only UEFI boot mode. That's the only workaround I know of.

If I boot my Clonezilla thumb drive in legacy mode, I see some SYSLINUX messages which are quickly blanked, then nothing more. In UEFI mode I get as far as the grub menu.

Tried it with a DVD-ROM, UEFI boot mode, and removing nomodeset from the linux command. This time it worked! Would love to understand why, and to figure out how to make it work from the thumb drive.
