Edit: I also tried in BIOS settings turning on 'XCHI hand off. And in the Clonezilla boot menu fail safe mode. Neither stopped Clonezilla from hanging\not loading.

Please give the latest Clonezilla live a try, like 2.6.0-37 or even 2.6.1-6: https://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
They come with newer Linux kernel so it might support your hardware better.

I need extra SATA ports so I use a Asmedia 106x PCIe SATA3 adapter card plugged into a Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X motherboard. I got it from ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PCIe-PCI-Express-to-SATA3-0-2-Port-SATA-III-Expansion-Controller-Card-Adapter-6G/282798327951?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649. This works fine with Windows 10 but Clonezilla 2.56-22 amd64 on a CD gets stuck loading after the boot menu. Here are 2 images https://imgur.com/a/olaosdf. The first is the PC boot up message from the PCIE sata card and the 2nd Clonezilla getting stuck because of the PCIE sata adapter card. I can use Clonezilla fine when I unplug this PCIE SATA adapter card.
