I am a new Clonezilla user and I am following the step-by-step instructions at (http://clonezilla.org/show-live-doc-content.php?topic=clonezilla-live/doc/01_Save_disk_image) without success. I've documented my work following their 11 step process.

    1. Boot the machine via Clonezilla live
I boot machine with Clonezilla Live 2.1.1-25 DVD
    2. The boot menu of Clonezilla live
I select "Clonezilla live (Default settings, VGA 800x600)"
    3. Here we choose 800x600 mode, after pressing Enter, you will see Debian Linux booting process
      Smooth sailing so far!
    4. Choose language
This option does not exist, but I believe that's fine
    5. Choose keyboard layout
I heed the warning about the bug when choosing the French key map
      I select "- pc / azerty / French / Same as X11 (latin 9) / Standard"
    6. Choose "Start Clonezilla"
      Here we go!
    7. Choose "device-image" option
I do just what it says selecting "device-image work with disks or partitions usi"
    8. Choose "local_dev" option to assign sdb1 as the image home
I select "local_dev Use local device _E.g.: hard drive, USB drive)"
I insert my 8G USB drive (and it is detecting properly)
    9. Select sdb1 as image repository, then choose "savedisk" option
This is where I believe I start to have issues. I find the wording to be a bit confusing. It says that I "should not mount the partition I want to backup as /home/partimag"
I read this as I should not select the hard drive I wish to backup (I should select the USB drive I wish to save to). However, only the Lubuntu and Windows partitions are listed.
      sda1 39.5G_ntfs(In_HDS728080PLAT20_)HDS728080PLAT20_PFD215S8S220TM
      sda5 508M(In_HDS728080PLAT20
      )HDS728080PLAT20_PFD215S8S220TM
      sda6 36.2G_ext4(In_HDS728080PLAT20
      )_HDS728080PLAT20_PFD215S8S220TM
I select the first one to continue forward and see what happens.
      I select "/ Top_directory_in_the_local_device"
      I view the file system disk spac usage "/dev/sda1 size 40 G. used 17G, Avail 24G /home/partimag"
I select "Beginner Beginner mode: Accept the default options"
      I select "savedisk Save_local_disk_as_an_image"
    10. Input image name and select source disk
I use the given image name "2013-06-22-15-img"
Now I see my USB drive and start to think everything is just fine and I just must be misreading the instructions. sda1 will be saved to my usb drive. So I select "sdb 8286MB_Patriot_Memory__Patriot_Memory_Patriot_Memory_0916100000081"
I select "-fsck-src-part Interactively check and repair so" and "Yes, check the saved image"
    11. Clonezilla is saving disk image (sda) to the partition of 2nd disk (sdb1)
I never get here or see this screen. Instead I get the message in red "No Input device!"

If you see an issue with my work please let me know! Thanks!

Maybe it's the Linux kernel does not support your hardware very well. Please give Clonezilla live 2.1.2-20 or 20130703-raring a try. They come with newer Linux kernel...

    Steven.

My never using Clonezilla tripped me up here. My USB drive was not being detected. I should of noticed this at step 9, but was unsure of the behavior and unsure of the wording of the instructions. Used a different USB device and it worked fine. Thanks.

    Got it.
    Thanks for clarifying that.

    Steven.
