Updating a device-device local disk clone

Since there is no differential cloning is it possible to update a device-device disk-to-local-disk clone without having to redo the entire clone? Does just copying the new files onto the disk with the old clone on it cause problems?
Not really. For Clonezilla we use image-based program, i.e. partclone as the cloning/imaging engine. It does not have the ability to do such a differential cloning.
