When I try to create an ISO or ZIP file from an existing backup, it creates the directory structure, copies the system files, starts to copy the backup files but hangs on the first data file.  I am using SSH and have tried it on several computers.  On ZIP - after it hangs, I can't delete the folder under /home/partimag as it appears to be write protected.  I can delete the folder if I dive down and delete the data file it appearantly hangs on. Does it perhaps have to do with NTFS or FAT32 file-structure on the SSH share?  What can I do?

      Christopher,
Did you mean your ssfs is running on a FAT or NTFS file system ?
I am not sure it will be a problem or not, but we can try to reproduce the problem if we know how to duplicate the environment.

      Steven.

I am trying to create the ISO/ZIP after back up to my Toshiba TECRA M5 Laptop which has a FAT32 filesystem and  using COPSSH running under WindowsXP.  I have also tried using a Dell 665 running COPSSH on Windows XP with NTFS filesystem.  Both have 1G of memory. I have mainly tried with GZIP but I attempted with other archive formats created with the Live CD also. When I boot Clonezilla Live 1.1.2-14 on a machine that I back up (dual Zenon with 4G of memory)  I go to advanced>Create ISO/ZIP and it continues to try to create the ISO or ZIP but stops creating files on the Laptop/desktop after writing a small portion of the first data file.  It apparently creates all of the support files with no problem.  I have tried on a 100M network and on a 1G network.

As a small side note:  Steven, let me just say, I love Clonezilla and really appreciate all that your group has put into it.

        Christopher,
Do you have USB flash drive or hard drive ? Maybe you can try to use that as the working space to save the created recovery iso or zip file.
Or maybe you have Linux server running openssh ? If so, please give it a try, too.
Also, thanks for your comments. It's fun for us to share the programs with everyone, and learn something from some of you. :)

        Steven.

I tried doing it from a Dell desktop running XP and MambaSSH today.  Saving to a USB hard drive was painfully slow but after I did it, I tried to create a ZIP and an ISO on the USB drive and had the same problems as discussed previously.  Just for the sake of completeness, I tried it to the internal hard drive again and it stopped at .34% on the ZIP and just stopped doing anything on the ISO as before.  I don't think I'm advanced enough with linux to do it on my laptop with Knoppix or anything like that.

Have you tried doing it on a Windows machine with some OpenSSH software like COPSSH?  I don't recommend MambaSSH, but wanted to just try something different.

No, I do not use COPSSH  on MS windows. I uses openssh from cygwin. Have you ever tried that?

Yes, COPSSH is a scripted install of openssh running from cygwin.  I believe it's the same as you run but with a much simpler install.  They say that COPSSH impliments some best practices of security for cygwin and openssh, so maybe it's too secure? I'll try a new version of that right away and let you know what happens with that.   I guess I could also try manually loading the cygwin and openssh if you think it might help?

Other than those 2 things, I'm not sure where to go with this at the moment.  I guess I can try to boot my laptop from a linux live disk that has a ssh server and try that?  Do you have any recommendations on that?
