Hi' I have win7 64bit on a Intel ssd hooked up to an
Asus z77 v-pro MB (Intel 3770k i7)this system has the UEFI BIOS.
2 years ago' I bought acronis to clone my drive. They did not say in their
Advertisment that at the time Acronis could not clone the ssd drive hooked up to the UEFI BIOS. Much to my dismay, I couldn't use acronis anymore and I was stuck with the purchase. My ssd drive is 240gig I want to use Clonezilla to copy it on a flash drive or similar. I read somewhere on the Clonezilla site that I may need the AMD64 UBUNTU version of Clonezilla
To get the job done. I have a few questions.
1.) Do I need the amd64 version of clonezilla? (I have an Intel 3770k)
2.) Do they make a flash drive bigger than 240gigs? I may want to copy my newly cloned 520gig later. If not is there a better choice. I made a clone about ten years ago to a USB hard drive but the drive went bad before I could use it to restore my data.
3.) Can I make a clone of a clone? Say clone my 520gb after it has been populated with my 240gb drive data.
5.) My Bios is uefi, will cloning old drive240gb and reboot on new drive work?
6.) I will want to do a restore from flash to my new 520gb drive.
Thank you'
Leo

Hi. I don't claim to be a Clonezilla expert, but have gained some insights into linux live cd's over the years.
With regard to your question 1), I believe you need the 64 bits version IF you enable uEFI in your BIOS. In that case you use what is called Secure Boot. AFAIK it is possible in most uEFI BIOS'es to disable uEFI. In the latter case you can also use a 32 bits version, I think.
2) Flash drives are quite limited; The wikipedia article on this issue says capacities of up to 256 GB have come on the market. Why would you limit yourself to a flash drive. I would recommend the use of a portable USB drive (which doesn't need AC/external adapter), e.g. a WD Elements or WD My Passport. They come in sizes up to 3 TB!
Then again, if your drive is not full and/or Clonezilla handles your filesystem well, Clonezilla's image may take up relatively little space.
3) Yes.
Where is 4) ?? ;-))
5) Probably not, not without modification at least, as the old bootup record (MBR) only takes up the first 1024 bytes. You might be able to repair the first sectors of the restored image, but don't hold your breath.
6) See 2) --> i.e. don't use a flash drive, but use a USB hard drive. Then you will be all set.
From your questions I gather that you confuse clones and images. I think you want to make an image of your SSD, which you can restore later.
Cheers,
John AKA Sando

Thanks for the reply. I will forget the flash drive and USB drive.
I only want to clone my 240gb hd to the new 520gb HD
I am pretty sure I cannot disable secure boot in the uefi.
In this case will I need to use and amd64 bit version?
Do you know why they call it AMD64? It sounds like its only compatible with AMD processors.

Don't worry about the naming: the AMD64 architecture is designed by AMD, but Intel's processors support it as well.
I don't know why you think Secure Boot cannot be disabled in the BIOS. I think it can: this page shows how for your motherboard: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/17058-secure-boot-enable-disable-uefi-2.html (I might be mistaken)
But yes, if you have SB enabled you need the 64-bits version.
