Will I be able to clone my 64 bit System?  I am running the 64 bit version of OpenSuse 11.0.  Clonezilla would not load.  This is the first time I am using the 64 bit version of OpenSuse 11.0.  I was able to clone 32 bit systems in the past with Clonezilla.

    Regards,

    -Mike

It should work. 32 bits Clonezilla live should be able to boot on AMD64 machine. When you mentioned "Clonezilla would not load", what the error messages ? Please provide more info about that so it's easier for us to find why it does not work there.

      Hi Steve,

At the boot menu I have always selected 'Clonezilla Live'.   Here is the line it hangs on:

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
      (initramfs).

I have successfully used Clonezilla Live in the past to clone my 32 bit server ( Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 - SP2) and also a 32 bit desktop running OpenSuse 11.0  I recently purchased a new desktop and have the 64 bit version of OpenSuse  11.0 installed.  My processor is Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHZ with 4 GB of Ram.

      Please advise.

      -Mike

      Hi Steve,

I downloaded the newest version (1-2.0-25) and now see this error:

      Boot Failed
This Debian Live Image Failed to Boot

Previously I was using version 1.0.9-10 with success on 32 bit machines.

Another error message I noticed with version 1.0.9-10 on my 64 bit machine was:

Busy Box v1.1.3(Debian 1:1.1.3-4) Built in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands
/bin/sh: can't access tty;  job control turned off (initramfs).

Why am I seeing the reference to Debian on my 64 bit machine but never saw the reference on my 32 bit machines?

I am running OpenSuse 11.0 Desktops and Suse Linux Enterprise Sever 10 - SP2.

      -Mike

Looks like maybe it's kernel support issue.
Maybe you can give testing or experimental Clonezilla live a try ?

I used the experimental Clonezilla (intrepid) and I was successful in cloning my 64 bit system.  Thanks!!

I have a few questions though:

1.) What do you mean by "kernel support issue"?  Is the kernel different on a 64 bit machine?

2.)  Will version 1.0.9-10 still work on my 32 bit systems if there has been any recent kernel updates to them?

The experimental clonezilla live uses the latest kernel based on Ubuntu 8.10. It's newer than that in the stable branch.
We have a lot of changes from clonezilla live 1.0.9, including the kernel updates.
