I'm trying to run Clonezilla Live v2.3.1-18-i586 from a USB flash drive. I boot until the splash screen and choose the mode.
After choosing the desired mode (I tried all modes, including failsafe and various resolutions) my computer tries to boot clonezilla with an error:
failed to execute /init (error -28)
After that the screen is full of similar code with error -28. Than the computer flashes NumLock and ScrollLock and nothing happens.
Is my 2005 hardware too old for clonezilla? Do I need another version or software? I was trying to create a disc clone (possibly on a local network computer running Windows 7).

My PC is from year 2005 (intel celeron D) and it runs Windows XP.

Did you try different version of Clonezilla live?
