No

Erroneously I tried to submit this report to sourceforge-support and was sent here from them:

When Clonezilla had started up I chose local-part to local-part to clone a
20 GB partition on a 60 GB harddisk to a 40 GB disk/partition. But that
did not work. "The ratio for target disk size to original disk size is
.5015. The target disk is smaller than the source disk! Clonezilla won´t
be able to restore a partition image to smaller partition." Was the error
message.
When trying to clone anyway the result was a Windows XP installation that
would not boot correctly. There was no user-login possible.
Is this a bug, or did I select the wrong options ?
We are using the stable ubuntu-lucid-based version of clonezilla live
here. It would be a nice feature if large ntfs-disks which are not full
could be mirrored to smaller ones. We are still using another imaging-
software for this purpose.

"clone a 20 GB partition on a 60 GB harddisk to a 40 GB disk/partition" -> Did you use disk to disk clone or partition to partition clone?
If it's disk to disk, sorry, Clonezilla does not support larger disk to smaller disk, as described here:

When Clonezilla had started up I chose _local-part_ to _local-part_ to clone a
20 GB partition on a 60 GB harddisk to a 40 GB disk/partition. But that
    did not work.

Are you sure you choose the right partition as the source, and the right one as the destination partition?

Yes I am quite shure about that, although at the moment I can not reproduce the error. But at your lab it should be no problem to do so.

Not really. I can _NOT_ reproduce this bug here.
Could you please post your steps, in detail. It will be easier for us to reproduce the problem.

    Steven.

O.K., I can try to do so, but don´t have any time for it now.

Hi, in class today we did reproduce an error message similar (can't be shore of the exact words though) by trying to clone a partition to another partition on the same disk. The partition we was cloning from was smaller than the destination, som we were kind of confused wirh the error message at first. But after some investigation it was clear. The beginning of the cloning was saved only in RAM and stop with this error message, when Clonezilla found out that the destination partition WAS NOT FORMATTED at all. I suppose Clonezilla can see the differnce of an formatted and not formatted partition, so it maybe just the error message that is a little wrong?

It was a quite new maverick-version that we used. I hope I posted at the right place. :)

    Peetra,
Could you please tell me the whole steps you have done, and the environment you have (including the disk info, Clonezilla live version... as details as possible) It's easier for us to reproduce the problem here.
    Thanks.

    Steven.
