Houston, we have a problem with exFAT.
Whenever I try to make a backup (savedisk) to external disk formatted exFAT, at some point of time it throws "No space left on the device or there is a permission issue".
It's definitely not a permission issue, because this error never thrown at start, but in the middle of backup of the partition.
Also it is definitely not a space issue, this disk has 3.6Tb of free space.
This seems to be system driver issue of Clonezilla distro or maybe even Linux driver issue.
Tested Clonezilla distros:
- alternative stable - backup failed
- 20210127-hirsute - backup failed
- stable - 2.7.0-10 - backup completed, but it took more than 24 hours, which is ridiculous for 300Gb SSD.
The same speed degradation was observed on 1 and 2 cases before the error. Speed decreased from 9.5 GB/s to 34 Mb/s and then almost freezed at some moment, so case 3 also cannot be treated as successful.
I can not reproduce this issue here. Could you please give the latest stable one, i.e., Clonezilla live 2.7.1-22 or 20210127-groovy a try:

With 20210127-groovy the result is the same
Every time after the failed backup I see this in Windows
and this is the free space on disk
The I/O error indicated that your hardware might have some issues. Please check its integrity, or try to use another machine or another external disk to do the tests.
