To see if I got poor performance copy times with most recent builds, I tested with V2.6.5.8 PAE build. Both attempts died with error: /usr/sbin/ocs-onthefly: line 1347: 6093 killed partclone .ntfs -z 10485760 -N -L /var/log/partclone.log -b -s /dev/sda2 -O /dev/sdb2 failed to clone /dev/sda2 to /dev/sdb2, see attached photograph of screen. First try died after 2.5 hours, second try died after 4.2 hours.
My desktop is an Intel i7-4770S CPU, 3.10 GHz with 32GB DDR3 RAM. I have been upgrading the disks from 1TB to 2TB, and the primary drive is now solid state.
I also tested with the 20191226-focal AMD64 build, as there was no PAE build available. To my surprize, this copy ran cleanly, in a little over 3 hours. This is more in line with the performace times I was getting with V2.5.6.22 from Dec 2018.
The wisdom is using an AMD64 build on an Intel CPU is not at all obvious to me. I will try the AMD64 build again tonight and see if the good results continue.
AMD64 is actually the same as x86-64. Please check:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64
We use amd64 in the release arch is due to Debian and Ubuntu use that:
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianAMD64Faq
Hence, please use AMD64 for the model x86-64 CPU.
Steven
Historical note:
AMD were first with a 64 bit architecture that was an extension of X86 and called it AMD64.
Shortly after Intel played catch-up and produced a compatible 64 bit architecure and called it X86-64.
Ever since both CPU's have remained compatible.
I have the same issue, was trying to clone 6TB --> 12TB , any workaround?

Which version of Clonezilla live did you use? Have you tried the latest Clonezilla live., including testing release, e.g., >= 2.6.6-12 or 20200421-focal amd64 release:
https://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
?
Steven
Hi Steven,
I'm using Clonezilla live 2.6.5-21 . Made a bootable flash drive using https://tuxboot.org/
Trying 2.6.6-12 now
Clonezilla live 2.6.6-12 returns similar error:
OK, did you try Clonezilla live 20200421-focal?
BWT, what's your RAM size? Please run:
free -h
to show that.
Thanks.
Steven
Hmm, looks like kernel kills it because of OOM. Is there any cgroup limit?
It's not memory issues
Let me try 20200421-focal
OOM... No idea why...
No, we do not set any cgroup limit.
Steven
Hey Steve,
So looks like 20200421-focal worked like a charm. Well it didn't die yet, 7 minutes / 1,39% of proggress. Will post results tomorrow

Hi Stan, Steve: My notes show that in late December and early January I did multiple successfull copies of a 2TB solid state drive using 20191226 Focal build for AMD64. Yes, the copy times were 4+ hours, but they were successfull copies and correctly booted OK. I have an Intel i7-4770S CPU, 3.10 GHz with 32GB DDR3 RAM.
Hi,
I successfully finished to clone my hdds with 20200421-focal . Prorably any alternative versions works for me, didn't try tho.
Thanks
Thank you both for your feedback.
Not sure which part of Debian causes this OOM issue. At least now Ubuntu-based Clonezilla live works for you.
