Hi,
I have an HP Envy X2 with UEFI.
When I start with the latest version in EFI mode, before Grub, an error message appears: Can not load module video. Then Grub appears.
I try with any choice grub disappears but nothing is loaded. The computer turns off.
I tried other EFI and everything programs works without problem.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Fabien
Which version of Clonezilla live did you use?
Did you try the latest testing one? e.g. 2.1.2-11 or 20130606-raring?
Steven.
Hi,
Yes, I try. Same problem.
Fabien
Could you try to boot Ubuntu 13.04? E.g.
http://releases.ubuntu.com/13.04/ubuntu-13.04-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent
So that we know the upstream works or not.
Thanks.
Steven.
Hi Steven,
Thank you for your reply.
I am looking to test your proposal, but my computer has a 32-bits CPU. While Ubuntu does not support 32-bits EFI and 64-bits version, of course, do not work on a 32-bits platform (I have not tried). Do you have another suggestion ?
Maybe the problem is there, the 32-bits EFI does not work well while the 64-bits version of EFI work without problem (tested on IMac).
Fabien
"computer has a 32-bits CPU" -> Are you sure it's 32-bit CPU?
Is it a very old one? Like 5 years ago?
If it's not so old, maybe it is an amd-64/x86-64 CPU...
Steven.
Hi Steven,
:-)
I'm sure it is a 32 bit (I know, it's weird). No, this is a latest model that just came out (I bought it new about a month ago). Look at www.hp.com/Envyx2
For information : it is excellent, it's tablet and notebook simultaneously.
Have you seen the post in the discussion help ? Someone else has the same problem with his Dell 32 bit with UEFI.
Please Help, I do not know that using Clonezilla.
Fabien Voland
Excuse for my english : Please Help, I KNOW that using CloneZilla. I like CloneZilla and I don't want to use another ware.
Fabien
Hi Steven,
Re-Excuse me ! I forget : The processor is Intel® Atom™ Z2760. Look at
http://ark.intel.com/fr/products/70105/Intel-Atom-Processor-Z2760-1MB-Cache-1_80-GHz.
Bye!

Hi Steven,
Problem betweens EFI and UEFI ?
For information: the kernel and initramfs is loaded and after blocking occurs.
I hope you find a solution soon :-)
Fabien
Hi,
Ok. Thanks.
For information, I just tested the latest test version (2.1.2-20). Always the
same problem.
Grub appears, I choose the default and then vmlinux and initrd are loaded
but then the computer freezes and remains on the image of Grub.
Fabien
Hi Steven,
I just made some tests with VirtualBox virtualization.
Here are the results :
With the i386 version of Debian: no problem, the vmlinux and initrd runs without problem.
And I wanted to see how to react Clonezilla in VirtualBox: no problem. He runs...
What do you think about Steven ?
At first I thought it was the PAE, but I also tested a version
Clonezilla for i486 same problem.
Fabien
I believe the grub2 from Debian Sid now does not support your uEFI machine. That's why.
We will have to wait for the grub2 to support your hardware.
Or maybe you can try to switch your uEFI to legacy BIOS if your uEFI support that. However, your installed OS might not work...
Steven.
Hi,
Yet when I run Clonezilla in VirtualBox with EFI mode,
running without problem.
And that's the problem : my UEFI does not support legacy BIOS.
Only in EFI mode.
Fabien
Hi,
It is true that there are different emulation and hardware...
Well, I think you found the problem. I hope there will be a upcoming
update.
Again thank you for your help.
Fabien
Same situation here with Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2. I think all the Windows 8 tablets (Atom clover trail 32bit cpu) with UEFI are in the same case... so for now my only option to get an image of those seems to setup a MDT server (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit) wich is more complex and less efficient then use Clonezilla as I do for all our pc. I am waiting for months to see an update that could work with those tablets but I didn't see anything yet.
Anyone had more chance cloning their Windows 8 tablets lately?
I really wish for a working version of clonezilla live!

So did you try Clonezilla live 2.1.2-51 or 20130909-saucy AMD64 version?
Still same issue?
Steven.
I am not sure to understand why you ask about AMD64 version on a 32bit system but still, I did try those versions :
clonezilla-live-2.1.2-51-i486
clonezilla-live-2.1.2-51-i686-pae
clonezilla-live-20130902-saucy-i386
clonezilla-live-20130902-saucy-amd64
I believe debian and ubuntu just dont support 32bit system with uEFI...
Not really. You can boot clonezilla-live-2.1.2-51-i686-pae on a uEFI machine. The grub boot loader does support that.
However, if your CPU does not support x86-64 arch, then for sure the AMD64 version of Clonezilla live won't boot on that.
So do you know if any version of GNU/Linux supports Atom clover trail 32bit cpu?
Steven.
Hi all,
I have the same problem with the ASUS me400C. I think that the problem is the screen. On this Tablet the connexion with the screen is MIPI. For verify this someone can test a windows 8 tablet boot with a screen connected with the Micro HDMI cable. No? Anyone has the same idea? But i don't have this cable... Or if anyone has the option ocs boot for this screen type, I'm interested...
Rom1
I dont understand why you think the screen is the problem? Of what I read linux can only boot on a 64bit uEFI machine not on a 32bit only like those tablets with clover trail (Asus VivoTab, Lenovo TPT2, HP Envy X2 etc).
There is a Ubuntu version for ARM but I read nothing about a version supporting 32bit uEFI machine :( I am now thinking about buying a new model of tablet using i5 cpu instead of the 32bit only Atom Z2760.
Hi Pwel,
I foolishly thought that the type of screen could be the problem because the initial error reported was "Error unknown command 'load_video" while loading GRUB. But after reading your post I searched on the net and I read from various sources that the z2760 Atom processor was produced specifcally for Windows 8 and an other version of this processor is indeed compatible with linux: the z25 series "Clover Trail +". So the Z27 series is not compatible with the Linux kernel. Attempts have been made with an EFI manager "rEFInd" but without success. I'll have to find another way to clone the hard disk of this tablet ...
Bye ...

Since this is hardware issue, so it's closed.
Thanks.
Steven.
