This should work:

(mk:defsystem ct
    :source-extension "lisp"
    :depends-on (#:port)
    :components ((:file "path-manip")
                 ;; ...

Make sure all your ".system" files are in places where MK:DEFSYSTEM
can find them - see the variable MK:*CENTRAL-REGISTRY*.
