Hi Yves, I regularly build hg head on Mac (Snow Leopard - WITH gcc) without problems - both 32 & 64 bit version, with generational GC, with/without threads. I do not remember any problems with 2.49 as well. Can you try to build 2.49 not in MacPorts environment? Simply use configure script and make.
