I checked the setting to enable the Classic Shell Start Orb and it works with
Win 7 Pro 64 bit. However, when I boot into the Win 8 RP the start orb is not
shown, although I checked the setting to enable it. The strange thing is that
if I open and close the Start Menu settings the Start Orb appears, but I have
to do this each time I boot into Win 8.
If anyone can tell me how to get the Start Orb to appear in Win 8 without
having to open and close the Start Menu settings every time I would be
grateful.
Thanks and regards,

Classic Shell installs a service on Windows 8 called "ClassicShellService".
Can you confirm it is running?
Also if you log off, and log in, does the button appear?

Ivo,thanks for your reply. Yes,the service is running. However,it is shown as
32 bit,and I have a 64 bit system.Does that have a bearing on the problem,and
if so what can I do about it?
Without the Classic Shell Start Orb I do not get a log off or log in option.I
sign in to Win 8 with my Windows Live ID password.Signing out and signing in
made no difference. The Start Orb did not appear.
I would appreciate your further help.

The service is always 32-bit.
Can you check in Task Manager if you have ClassicShellService.exe and
ClassicStartMenu.exe running?
BTW, you don't need to run the settings to show the orb. Just run
ClassicStartMenu.exe manually. It will create the start button but without the
settings popup.

That is really strange. With 3.5.1, Classic Start Menu has to start at startup
if the service is running. Are you by the way, using auto logon to login to
Windows or are you manually logging in? In Services.msc, is the Startup Type
of the "Classic Shell Service" set to Automatic and not something like
Automatic (Delayed)? Also try downloading 3.5.1 again and doing a repair
installation.

Ivo, in Win 7 there is no reference in Services to Classic ShellService.exe or
ClassicStartMenu.exe, and yet the Start Orb appears and there are no problems
with Classic Shell.
In Win 8 Services Classic ShellService.exe is running, but there is no
reference to Classic StartMenu.exe.
xpclient, in Win 8 I have to sign in with my Windows Live ID. (I would like to
log in automatically, but don't know how to).
The Startup Type of the Classic Shell Service is set to Automatic.
I would appreciate further help.

When you open the Start Menu settings, does the title bar say 3.5.0 or 3.5.1?
Did you try downloading the latest version again and doing a Repair
installation? Try that please.

xpclient, the title bar says 3.5.1. I will try downloading the latest version
again and doing a repair installation and will let you know the result.
xpclient, I downloaded the latest version again and did a repair installation,

Do you,or does anyone, have any other ideas?
Further help would be appreciated.
