Something that would make my life in Windows 7 a lot better would be a decent
search menu.
Windows 7 default search is moronically broken when it comes to actually being
able to customize the search fields.
Most of the logic is still there behind the scenes, but rather than having a
nice menu driven interface to it, you have to manually type in commands to do
file type specific searching, date ranges, etc.
Basically, with Vista and Win7 they totally ruined the Explorer search field
for anything except the most basic of searches.
As the logic is still there, I wonder how hard it would be to add a front end
UI to the Classic Explorer view that then just fed into the standard Windows 7
search mechanism.
Any thoughts?

There are many free tools. Try FileLocator Lite (free) or FileSearchEx (paid
XP search clone).
