Hello.
Based on professor's Chen's work, a research specialization consists of the research front (determined by citer articles) and the intellectual base (determined by the cited references).
When constructing a co-citation network to uncover the intellectual foundations of a research field, wouldn't it make more sense to label these clusters using references rather than terms from the citer articles? I know of the limitation of this method to data from Scopus, but doesn't it make conceptual sense? The problem is I have never seen this done in a published paper.
Any input is appreciated. Thank you!
