After I finish exams next week, I'll start tracking this back down.  The 
main issue for me is that I run MVAPICH/-2 to get IB performance.  To 
really test and be involved, I'll need people who are willing to help.  
This will mean running LAM MPI-2.  The code is known to work for simple 
cases, but has never been really beat on.  Since support will require a 
specific MPI implementation, it will have to be a compile option like 
the other highspeed network layers.  We will also need to revisit 
non-blocking communication support in the network layer. 

I'll probably hold off on this until a Chromium 1.8 release goes out the 
door.  Those that are willing to help get the code up to snuff, please 
send me an email privately and we'll work with SGI to get the code into 
Chromium.
