Chromium 1.3 can be downloaded from SourceForge at: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=16529 New Features Added borderless option to render SPU Added track_window_position option for application nodes New OpenGL extensions support: GL_ARB_fragment_program GL_ARB_vertex_program GL_NV_fragment_program GL_NV_vertex_program GL_NV_vertex_program1_1 GL_NV_vertex_program2 GL_NV_texture_rectangle GL_EXT_shadow_funcs GL_EXT_texture_rectangle vertprog_projection_parameter config option for crserver. This is useful for running Cg demos on tilesort displays, for example. bbox_scale config option for tilesort SPU. This is useful when computing bounding boxes for geometry perturbed/warped by vertex programs. Bug Fixes Fixed Alpha compilation problem The show_cursor option didn't work (must be set in both the render SPU and the application node) -Brian |

You can now download the beta release of Chromium from SourceForge at https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=16529 There are a lot of new features and lots of bug fixes since the alpha release. See the docs for details. Those of you who have been tracking Chromium CVS can probably ignore this as the CVS trunk and this release are basically identical right now. -Brian |

Hello, Several of you have been aware of several issues clouding the future of the Chromium contract with VA Linux and you have been patient with me not directly addressing the issue. It is now possible for me to directly address any questions you might have. So, I am very happy to announce that the contract previously placed with VA Linux to cover Chromium efforts has been re-established with RedHat. We believe that with RedHat involved, the problems encountered with VA Linux can be avoided in the future. The development efforts continues as before lead by Brian Paul with the help of Alan Hourihane at RedHat, as many of you may have noticed from the development email traffic. I should note that Brian is not a RedHat employee, but that he has been sub-contracted for this contract. Work will continue as noted previously to provide features key in the hardening of Chromium, no changes have been made in the statement of work. Suffice to say that a number of people worked very hard to get this effort back on track and I would like to express my appreciation to all of them, and thank them for their patience with me over the last few months. As I stated before, we are very excited to see this effort continuing and the results of their efforts are already quite visible with the inclusion of features such as multi-context support. As before, if you have any questions regarding these changes, please let me know and I will try to answer them as best I can. Thanks. rjf. Randall Frank | Email: rj...@ll... Ok, To answer at least part of John's questions for everyone, the contract goes into effect immediately. Greg will serve as the technical lead/primary developer on the project, he is most definitely not "handing over the reigns" to VA Linux. We believe an appropriate level of coordination exists between the two groups to ensure successful parallel efforts. I believe we see the efforts of both groups to be very complimentary and I personally do not forsee any conflicts. At present, I think the best route for the Chromium community at large to contribute is to report bugs and post fixes as appropriate. I would ask the individuals who wish to contribute larger portions of code contact Greg or myself. As user contributed SPUs start to be developed, I would expect that something akin to a 'contrib' arm of the distribution might have to be created (note, I am speaking a little off the cuff here, so if I have overstepped a bit, please let me know Greg). Hopefully that address most of the noted concerns... Thanks. At 11:30 AM 9/6/2001 -0600, John Clyne wrote: >Randy, this is some exciting news. Randy, this is some exciting news. When does the contract go into effect? Will development proceed in parallel between Stanford (I.e. Greg) and VA Linux? How will these efforts be coordinated or is Greg simply handing over the reigns to VA Linux? Will there still be a mechanism for the community to provide enhancements/fixes to Cr? What will that mechanism look like? thanks - jc What will the relationship be between Randall Frank writes: > > Hello, > As I alluded to at the earlier kick-off meeting at > Stanford, I would like to announce the following: > > Commercial Support for the Chromium Project > > As part of the ASCI VIEWS project PathForward funding, > the DOE/tri-labs have signed a contract with VA Professional > Services (VA Linux) to enhance and extend the Chromium > framework. Hello, As I alluded to at the earlier kick-off meeting at Stanford, I would like to announce the following: Commercial Support for the Chromium Project As part of the ASCI VIEWS project PathForward funding, the DOE/tri-labs have signed a contract with VA Professional Services (VA Linux) to enhance and extend the Chromium framework. This effort includes development of formal testing suites, additional features (e.g. multi-context support) and optimizations. This 14 month, multi-person effort is to be lead by Brian Paul. We believe that the addition of these dedicated resources to the current Open Source Chromium effort will aid in our ultimate goal of making available a distributed, scalable, parallel rendering framework robust enough to support "real-world" applications and extensible enough to encapsulate new parallel rendering research. If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please contact Randy Frank <rj...@ll...>. Thanks. rjf. Randall Frank | Email: rj...@ll... The alpha release of Chromium, WireGL's replacement, has been made available on SourceForge. It is released open-source under the BSD license. SourceForge claims that it will take "up to a few hours" for the release to show up on the web site, so be patient; it's not there yet. It should appear under "File Releases" at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/chromium. Remember, this is an alpha release, and some things don't work. The next release is scheduled for sometime in October. Please use the bug tracking system liberally. -Greg -- Some people call me the space cowboy Some call me the gangster of love Some people call me ... HUMPER hu...@gr... |
