I took the liberty to subscribe you to the chrolog-users mailing
list.  Chrolog, http://sourceforge.net/projects/chrolog/, is a project
arising from work done by Xun Luo and Alex Holkner this summer within
the Google Summer of Code 2005 program.  It provides a library that
replaces the gettimeofday() system call with a significantly cheaper
(in terms of CPU time) library function that uses the TSC counter to
learn the time.
