Chimeras are organisms composed of cells that originate from two or more different species. The name chimera comes from Greek mythology and describes a creature with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, the tail of a serpent and a head of dragon on its back. Chimeric DNA sequences often form during polymerase chain reaction amplification, especially when sequencing single regions to assess diversity or compare populations. Some randomly formed chimeras cause destruction. In plants, Untransformed cells should be easy to detect and remove to avoid chimeras. Because it’s extremely important to maintain the stable ability of the transgenic plants across different generations. Detection and removal of chimeras is therefore of critical importance in such experiments. ChimeraDetector is, therefore, an essential tool in detection of chimeras from genome sequences.
