Hi Eric, I am not really sure i understand your question. However, here are some guidelines: 1. The pieces are created by starting from the TrueType fonts, that are freeware and available online. 2. The fonts are installed and a document is prepared containing all the images of the pieces. 3. The document is converted in an image format (TIF or PGN). This basically gives you the "plain" pieces (as shown in ChessX if you select Edit>Preferences>Board>Merida-plain) 4. An outline can be added in various ways (I used GIMP), and this will give you the "outline" pieces (as shown in ChessX if you select Edit>Preferences>Board>Merida-outline). 5. To the pieces with an outline you can also add a shadow. Again, this can be done in various ways (I used the scriptfu "shadow-dropshadow" in GIMP) and will give you the "plain+shadow" pieces. All this requires a lot of converting / resizing / playing with parameters (eg. blur radius, opacity etc) / etc, but -even if quite long- it is not really complicated in principle. So which is exactly the part you are missing in the steps above? Feel free to ask any question, and let's see if it can help. We can keep this discussion here on the list if you think it can be useful for ChessX developers, or otherwise you can write me offlist at my personal mail.
