Hi, I was directed here to file end-user bugs. Please re-direct if there is a more appropriate destination or forum.

I the course of upgrading from chessx 1.3 (? I forget exact version) to 1.5.6 (Mac, current Big Sur installation), access to the built-in "Stockfish 10.64" vanished.

I have deleted all the initialization and support files that I could find, and re-installed 1.5.6, with the same results, shown.

Note, I have separately installed Stockfish.app and Stockfish 13 (via homebrew), which I ultimately would like to use, although I can't find information on how to specify the engine at /usr/local/bin//stockfish on my machine).

    Hi,

In ChessX there is a settings menu which should be accessible on a Mac with the OSX preferences shortcut: CMD+,

There you can set the paths to all the chess engines. I don't have a Mac, but just hope this is helpful.

I took out the engines as it became more difficult with Gatekeeper to have internal binaries. Perhaps I'll make a separate package for installing Stockfish as Stockfish.org does not distribute Mac binaries. Same problem with lc0 btw.

Follow the manual for installing any UCI or winboard engine in ChessX (even though I must admit, instructions are not too detailed)

Oh! that makes sense. I'll see what I can dig up.

In that case, this bug report should be changed to "on-line documentation is out of date" !
Thanks again for the chessx tool.
