Hi David, Smarty was one of the other template engines that we looked at last May w= hen=20 work started on Cheetah. Everyone I've spoken to about it seems to regar= d it=20 highly. The syntax is close to Cheetah's and they both compile to native= =20 code, but some of the semantics are very different. In particular, Smart= y=20 doesn't seem to treat templates as classes that can be subclassed, it doe= sn't=20 have any equivalent of the servlet infrastructure available via Webware, = and=20 it doesn't have any equivalent of the searchList. If you're evaluating using Cheetah/Webware/Python instead of Smarty/PHP, = I'd=20 suggest having a look at =20 http://webware.colorstudy.net/twiki/bin/view/Webware/WebHome and=20 http://webware.colorstudy.net/twiki/bin/view/Webware/PythonVsPHP Cheers Tavis On April 16, 2002 10:44 pm, David Phillips wrote: > It would be interesting to add a comparison between Cheetah and Smarty > Template Engine, a very cool template engine for PHP.
