Hello,
the Hungarian accented characters do not appear correctly in the notification box and the UI is also affected by this bug when switching to Hungarian. There is always a two-character-garbage instead of an accented char.
The bug does not depend on the localization of the Gnome-desktop.
I have enclosed a screenshot of it. There should be something like éáűőúöüóí in the last row.
It would be nice if you fixed it because this is the best gmail-notifier i have seen.

Same issue here. It's weird that even in the console it shows:
$ checkgmail -v
CheckGmail v1.12.1svn
Copyright © 2005-7 Owen Marshall
notice the accented A instead of a @.
When clicking to see the full message, the console first displays the message with tags and everthing, then "Wide character in print at /usr/bin/checkgmail line 914. cleaned text is" and the correct message, without accent issues. It's weirder that it used to work perfectly for me, with .10 and .12 (tried latest SVN, but I think it's the same) in Feisty. I had a disk crash, and when I reinstalled everything, it didn't work anymore. Only difference is that this is a fresh install and the other one was a 6.10 upgrade, and I didn't install a lot of stuff I had. Maybe a missing package or something?

After installing Kubuntu with full Hungarian settings, the problem was solved. Could it be something with the language settings of perl?
