I recently installed checkgmail and used it for a few days. While cleaning up the look of my ubuntu, 7.04 install i accidentally removed the checkgmail panel icon. I reinstalled with a combination of restarts and different ways of trying to load check gmail on start-up (via gnome session manager) and i can not get checkgmail to showup in the panel by either manually loading it or autoloading it. When i first installed it everything worked fine. Since I removed it from my panel it appears to still be running just not visible on any of my panels. Sorry if this sounds confusing, my words aren't very good at the moment. If you have any further questions about this issue please email me at "drewbirmingham (at) gmail (dot) com"

Make sure that other system tray applications are displaying - it sounds like you might have removed the entire system tray from your gnome panel (since you can't "remove" checkgmail manually from there with out closing it!) To restore it, right-click on the panel and add the system tray back (I'm not sure exactly how you do this, since I don't use Gnome, but it should be fairly straightforward).

(Note that Gnome's volume manager and the like are not system tray applications - they are separate panel applets - so if you can see them, that doesn't mean that the systray is present. Try with something like Gaim.)
