Installation

To make sure everything goes the right way, ensure to have fully understood this document.

Step 1 - Booting

First of all, power up your node and insert the CD. You must boot from the optical drive, but since you are going to install C.H.A.O.S. and not Ubuntu, I suppose there's no need to tell you how to do that.

When the CD Boot Menu comes up, choose the option that suits your node's architecture.

Then, as the Live system has completed the boot procedure, you will be presented with this screen:

Enter the command:

./CHAOSinstaller

to get the installer going.

Step 2 - Installation

The semi-automated C.H.A.O.S. installer will start, presenting you this screen:
IMAGE NOT FOUND

Answer "M" if you are installing the Master node or "N" if a Slave.
This guide refers to Master installation, but the Slave setup should be the same.
The installation will proceed asking if you want to partition:

Then the real installation will begin:

After all the packages have been installed, the network configuration will take place.
This step may look kinda tricky:

  • Network interfaces are listed.
  • You have 15 seconds to decide which interface will be assigned to LAN (master<>slaves) and which to WAN (internet<>master).
  • Network interfaces are listed again.
  • Input the WAN and LAN interface names.
  • Input the IP address of your router (the installer supposes that you are inside an home/school/private network, not directly connected to the ISP. Please refer to Arch Wiki for details on that option).
  • Choose between specifying a static IP address that the master would use inside your home/school/private network or letting the router's DHCP do that for you.

The last operations will be done and the bootloader will now be installed:

You're almost finished; reboot and, once in control of the prompt, start the post-install configuration script.

  • For Master:
sudo /root/postinstall
  • For Slave:
sudo /root/postinstall_node

You will be asked if you want to set up USB Key or Fingerprint authentication.
Once that script is done, refer to the [SSH] page to copy the SSH keys all over your machines.
