Also, you can get a lack of post variables depending on how you have your php.ini configured. By default newer version of PHP (CGI Version) have: register_globals = Off Depending on how a script is written, it may require this setting to be On. If that is the case it will appear that the post variable are being dropped. The PHP people recommend not to use register_globals = On anymore and to program using other methods.
