Try to use mod_rewrite in Apache...

Add this to .htaccess file in cgi-irc directory

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$

I'd like to grant access to CGI:IRC only for visitors from my website. I'd make
a variable in a file of the website that CGI:IRC will check. That file sets the
variable $check and then redirects the visitors to irc.cgi

In arquivo.php ($check)
www.mysite.com/irc.php?check=ok

Redirect to irc.cgi:

I need a CGI code for irc.cgi that should do this:

if (!$check) {
die();
}

Can anyone help me?

Most of it is in the interface files, you will find these in
interfaces/interface-make (which you then need to run make-js-interfaces.pl
to regenerate). Removing the status window is a little bit harder.

As CGI:IRC is GPL anyone who modifies it should provide their modifications
to people who ask, so you could just ask the people who have modified it.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on customizing =
the layout of CGI:IRC.

I have taken some screens from a company that has already done so:

The Login Page:

As you see in the main chat window they have removed the status button =

By opening/reading/modifying source.. Though it more depends (eg new
commands) on ircd not CGIIRC..

Yes there is David Leadbeater (hyh you should check at least the homepage to
know our heros).

Why the heck should there be sql? To my mind between irc server and client
there is no place for additional db server (at least I see no point. What
can be it's purpose?). If you want you can implement it on your own..

It's still missing a lot of features that the old versions had and there
are also quite a few things I want to change in the interfaces.

Yes, I have used it with apache-ssl in the past and I think people do now.
I haven't changed to do with that sort of thing for a long time so I don't
think it would be a bug.

You could try the CVS version as that now uses xmlhttp for sending data,
which allows error messages to be displayed if there are any.

No, that seems not to be the problem, I compiled the client.c with
gcc -Wall client.c -oclient.c
and changed the config. but same problem. nothing changed.
 
Okay, when I find more time then I will look in this script, maybe I found
something, did you tested it with an ssl httpd?

Probably some problem with the client-perl.cgi (maybe try using 
the compiled client.cgi?). I can't actually access your SSL host
as the proxy here (a university) does not allow access to https on
that port.

I have a testinstallation from cgi::irc in http://www.digidrops.de/work/cgi-bin/cgiirc-0.5.3/irc.cgi.
with apache httpd 2.048 ssl enabled. I can login with this client into the server, server-messages
apear and so on and also the webclient join the channels. but it is not possible to talk (recieve
messages / sending works). Any Idea what can be wrong?

ps: Now I tried it on non ssl port and there in seems to work, but I would 
like have ssl encryption over the apache, the URL in my posting will redirect to
the ssl-port.

That was the problem. I had to change the prefix, but I didn't know that
I had to change it in client-perl as well.

Is client-perl.cgi installed properly (or client.cgi if you're using that)?
Does anything show up in error_log?
Did you change socket_prefix (and not update the path in
client-perl.cgi/client.cgi as well)?

I installed the cvs version, but it still shows exactly the same. It
will receive info from the channel, but it will not send any. No error
message is displayed.

The loading is normal because of the way CGI:IRC works with a stream.
It sounds like maybe client-perl.cgi is not installed properly.
You could try the CVS version (snapshot at http://cvs.dgl.cx/cgiirc-cvs.tar.bz2)
because it actually shows you the error if there is an error there. (It also
gets rid of the annoying clicking on IE).

netfirms advertising banner appears to get in the way - it breaks the html for the frameset for
a start, and I guess the stream wouldn't work either.

I have checked the paths and the permissions and everything seems to be =

I have been trying to set up cgi:irc 0.5.3, but have run into a problem:
I can connect to a server, be it my own or the test server and can see
the traffic on the channel, but I am unable to see send any outbound
traffic from the cgi:irc interface. I am not sure if this is normal, but
it continues to show that the page is trying to be loaded, though
everything seems to be shown.

I have tried every conceivable configuration option, but have not been
able to cure the condition. Can anyone suggest anything that might be
causing this?
