Add the audio tracks you wish to burn to the Audio CD project and select disc at once (DAO) as writing mode. Then open the dialog for track options (button 'Tracks') and select the option 'Pause between tracks' -> 'no pause'. Klick 'Ok'.

i tried that but it doesn't work... the cd's keep burning with that 2 second gap... is it because of cdrecord???

Tried it successfully with cdrtfe 1.3pre2 and cdrecord 2.01.01a31. Just a - maybe silly - question, did you check whether the gap/silence is part of the sound file(s)?

the gap/silence is not part of the song... i tried again, following your instructions, and it still leaves that 2 second gap between songs... :/

This is interesting. It seems as if the settings are somehow overridden. Could it be that there is an *.inf file for each wave file? If so, try what happens, if you uncheck the option 'Use info files'. You can also remove the info files. And, if it still doesn't work, please post the output from cdrecord (including the commandline). The option 'more detailed output' should be enabled (dialog 'settings' -> tab sheet 'cdrecord').

as far as i know there is no inf file and when i checked the options, 'use info files' wasn't checked, though i did check 'no pause' in the 'pause between tracks' tab. here's the complete output dialog with 'more detailed output' enabled:

The commandline is correct and cdrecord did not add any padding. So I can't see where the gap/silence between the tracks comes from. You said that the silence is not part of the wave files. Did you use a wave editor to check this? Where are these wave files from? How did you create them?

    • Nobody/Anonymous

in my case cdrecord keeps adding a 2 second gap/silence between songs even though i keep checking 'no pause' in the options tab. the wave files come from my own cd and they don't have gap/silence between tracks. i used EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to copy the wave files from my cd to my computer. i didn't use a wave editor. i used my own cd player radio to check between tracks. interestingly EAC uses cdrdao and burned the music cd without the 2 second gap between songs. maybe there's a difference to as how cdrdao and cdrecord burn music files?

      > i used EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to copy the wave files from my cd to my computer.

Ok. What happens, if you copy the tracks from CD to PC with cdrtfe (which uses cdda2wav)?

Settings for DAE project (dialog 'Options'):

Options enabled: 'seperate file for each track', 'Use lib paranoia' (not necessary)
      Options disabled: 'no info files'
      Format: Wave

Then klick 'Read TOC', select all tracks, klick 'Start'. This reads all tracks from CD and creates info files (*.inf) for each track.

To write all tracks to a disc:

Add all tracks to the Audio CD project enable the options 'singlesession', 'DAO' and 'Use info files'. The resulting disc should not differ from the original one regarding the gaps between the tracks.

      > i didn't use a wave editor. i used my own cd player radio to check between tracks

So you can only say, that the original tracks on your CD don't have silence at the end or beginning. You can't be sure that it isn't EAC which adds silence to the resulting wave files.

As far as I know cdrecord can only burn gapless in disc at once mode. It just writes one track after the other without adding silence. So, if you find gaps in the resulting disc, they must have been within the wave files already. Or you have a drive which has a very strange behaviour (firmware bug?). Have you tried writing in raw mode?

the gap between songs i refer to is the 2 second pregap (Red Book CD). the pregap is typically two seconds long and usually, but not always, contains silence. so far cdrtfe (using cdrecord) appends the 2 second gap between tracks (they display negative -2s) even when i choose 'no pause' in the track options.

i ripped my audio cd using cdrtfe and burned it using cdrtfe (following your instructions) and it still appends the 2 second pregap between songs. now, i ripped my cd again using cdrtfe and burned the audio files using popular audio burning app Burrrn (it uses cdrdao) and it burned my cd without appending the 2 second pregap between songs. i tested again another rip made by cdrtfe and burned the wavs using the itunes client (it has an option to burn cds without a pause between songs) and it burned the cd without pauses between the songs. now, i read somewhere there's a limitation with cdrecord but i'm not sure if it's user experience or the info. came fromm someone with technical expertise.

i use cdrtfe for all my other burning tasks and i'd like to use it for burning my audio cds too (cdrtfe's audio feature set is just fantastic). i thought it could be my drive but if burrrn and itunes burns my cd without appending a 2 second pregap, then the problem may lie with cdrecord but i doubt that's it. any ideas?

Maybe this is just a matter of differently displayed time information or time stamps created by different burning programs.

If the wave files are written in disc at once mode, cdrecord (and all other burning programs, i think) just line up all files and write them to the disc. Nothing (no silence/gap) is inserted in between. So, if a song ends in sector x the next song follows immediately in sector x+1. If you listen to a CD playing across such a track boundary, you will not hear any silence (except the silence already existed in the wave file). The next track just begins immediately after the previous ends.

Standalone CD players, however, may display the time information differently. For example, I have created a disc at once CD with cdrecord. My CD player always shows the last 2 seconds of each track as pregap (-2 second countdown) for the following track. My DVD player doesn't display negative times at all. Instead it treats the track pregap of the following track as if it was part of current track.

So, if you copy a music CD by extracting the tracks and writing them with cdrecord/cdrtfe in disc at once mode, the contents will be the same, but the time display may differ from the original CD.

In other words, cdrecord does not add a pregap between two tracks, instead the last two seconds of a track may be interpreted as pregap by some players.

I have created some short wave files for tests. If you like, you can get them from
http://home.arcor.de/kerberos002/download/cdrtfe_test.rar (~3 MB, instructions for the tests are included, see readme.txt). If I play the resulting CD from the beginning to the end, I don't hear any silence between the tracks, however, depending on the player, a pregap (-2 second countdown) may be displayed.

kerberos, you're awesome! you're right, cdrecord doesn't append a 2 second pregap, my standalone player only made it look that way. basically, it only looked like cdrecord was appending the 2-second gap (by looking at the player's screen -- displaying a -02 seconds before the next track) but in reality it played without a pause at all! (there wasn't any pause at all in a burned copy of a continous playing cd)

cue sheet support for audio cds is excellent! keep up the good work! :D

    • Nobody/Anonymous

sorry if this is a stupid question...in the audio section...where and how do i load a cue sheet to burn? or is it not done in the audio section...i wanna burn a cue sheet with flac or ape files (if that makes a difference)

This is currently not part of the Audio CD project. Use the CD Image project -> Write image instead.
