Configuration : DELL Latitude D510, Windows XP Professional SP3 french version, HL-DT-ST GDR8084N CD/DVD driver.
My CD/DVD driver works well on Windows XP, I can read DVD with it. But when I start cdrtfe, the CD/DVD driver doesn't appears in the top right menu (see joined screenshot).
When I scan CD/DVD drivers with cdrtfe, cdrtfe shows an error message but it finds the CD/DVD driver in the log:

If a plug another CD/DVD driver instead of HL-DT-ST GDR8084N, it appears in the top right menu of cdrtfe. I updated HL-DT-ST GDR8084N firmware with DELL official firmware update, same problem.
I'm using cdrtfe 1.5.9.
Same problem with a HL-DT-ST GDR8082N CD/DVD driver.
It seems because they are DVD reader only, not DVD writer.
