Something that was just recently brought to my
attention was that you can not search the Mennonite.net
database by zip code or by county. Both of these would
be quite helpful for those people searching for
churches nearest to their area.
Also, when searching by country you have to know to
enter US or CA. The application should also allow you
to enter United States of America, USA, United States,
and Canada and bring up correct result.
One other problem is that when someone uses the
shortform CA, all the California entries are brought up
as well since they are both the same short form. As I
understand it, this would be much more difficult to fix
however and may never be fixed.
Reuven suggested that fixing the other issues however
would probably be an easier project for one of our new
summer people to work on as they are getting oriented.

A zip code proximty search now allows you to not only search
in one zip code to find an organization, but also to see all
organizations in a zipcode within 5, 10, 20, or 50 miles of
the original zipcode. The when searching by country, United
States of America, USA, United States, Can, and Canada all
will return appropriate results. The CA problem has been
left untouched, because it is unclear whether the user wants
Canada or California when doing a basic search. The idea of
a county search has also been left untouched, because the
zip cde proximity allows a regional search. Additionally,
the database doesn't have a record of which county each
organization belong to, so we wouldn't be able to implement
it until we had that information anyway.
