Do an 'rrdtool dump {path to rrd file} > /tmp/xml'

This will give you a file with output similar to the following near the
top of the file:

        <ds>
                <name> ds0 </name>
... some other stuff ...
        <ds>


        <ds>
                <name> ds1 </name>
... some other stuff ...
        <ds>

In this case, ds0 and ds1 are the data source names.
