I have Gimp 1.2.3 installed on my Redhat 7.2 system
(kernel 2.4.18). I compiled and installed
libc16-0.3.tar.gz and then compiled and installed
creatures-sprites_0.2.0-1.tar.gz. When I run gimp, I
cannot load / save any blk, c16 or s16 files. In the
Module Browser of Gimp, this is what it says about the
creatures-sprite plugins:

State: Module error (missing module_init() symbol)

I am uncertain why this is. I am trying to narrow down
exactly why, but as of yet, I am unsuccessful.

I have nearly the same system like you, except that mine is
    Debian.
I have gtk 1.2.10 and everything works fine for me. I just
did make and 'make install' for libc16 (and ldconfig btw.)
then configure, make, 'make install' for the plugins.
Since you get an errormessage I assume gimp at least tries
    to load the plugins, right?
Maybe you have another plugin installed that handles c16,
s16 and/or blk? Someone also reported that there was a
problem with the gimp-tool, just switching to a newer
    version worked.

The plugins should show up under BLK, C16 and S16 in "Plugin
Details..." and not the "Module Browser".

Though as long as we cannot reproduce that problem, I cannot
    fix this.
