The only reason is it's got to be more stable. Since fixing problems on user PCs is a much worse headache than fiddling with server, I want client to be as stable as it gets.
Since version 1 is still listed on site, I believe it is still supported. And I'm not aware of any killer features of version 2 for me (probably I'm missing something).
In any case, my question was about migrating from version 1 to version 2 clients. I'm sure someone already faced this problem before.
