Hi Graham,

Thanks for the quick reply (as always). I think that making syslog the 
default and let the user decide an alternative destination with an 
option is the best course of action.

The extra disk space is not a major issue, since logrotate is keeping 
this under control. Let me know if you want me to open a new GitHub 
issue to track this.
