Some of my 'salary' or income categories disappeared in the budget window. I can still use them when I'm putting transactions in the accounts, and they show on reports, but I can't see/change them in the budget window. When I try to create them they show in the dropdown menu as there, but they aren't listed on the budget. I tried 'unrolling' but they still don't show. I thought I'd originally set them up as sub categories to the default 'salary'. Right now my budget balances (with the salary amounts not showing - but can't get at them to change them for next month).

It sounds as if the missing categories may have lost their parent. Try the following:

-In Preferences -> View, disable tree view for categories (show as flat list)
-Go back to My Budget, and see if you can see the categories now
-If so, change the parent of the offending category to be a valid category

Let me know what you find.

    Cheers

    Hi again,
I tried what you suggested, my preferences say "Show budget categories in flat format (no parent categories). I checked the box, unchecked the box, tried each of the boxes in the preferences, all to no avail... When I look at My Budget, those income categories just don't show.
Here is something I did notice. When I go to Budget, Edit, if I have one of the 2 income categories (or any expense) clicked, I can create, modify or delete. If I have nothing clicked, I can only create. When I try to create, the income categories that I thought were 'under' salary show up as potential parent categories. If I click on one of them as a 'parent' [Child tax credit] and try to put a new one 'under' it [blue], neither one shows up on my budget list. However, now both the old parent and the sub [Child tax credit and blue] now show up as 'parent' if I try to create again.

I have identical issue. Just downloaded Buddi, changed very little to get going... started adding a/cs and as I was adding children of category "Cars' (I had deleted Auto, as it was VERY confusing when I came to add a transaction and one possible place for it was 'Auto'... as a non-accountant, I am afraid my first reaction was 'what clever software'!... Now I've realised that wasn't going to happen, I changed it!). At that point 'Cars' disappeared magically, just as I finished adding a sub-category. I now have a host of potential 'parent' a/cs (EV, EV1, Honda, Honda1 etc), but none of them appear as children of Cars (I added it again, despite the perfectly correct warning, hoping things might just get better!).

    Any suggestions please?

Hmm, tried to login using OpenID, got blank page, so I've added my comment as anonymous already. Logging on lets me monitor this thread, I hope. Looking forward to a fix to this disappearing a/cs problem, so we can startusing what seems a great but simple tool. Cheers, sleepyhead.

I had the same problem and I was able to fix it by enabling the flat view, changing the parent category, and switching back to tree view.
Not sure what caused this in the first place, but it's solved now.
    Thanks for the tip.

@Joanne: I had to save and reopen my buddi file in order for the view to change. Maybe you skipped that step.

I have just experienced a similar problem. I've been using Buddi for about a year -- but when I opened the program today, only transactions from two of my budget categories appear in the transactions window. All budget categories are appearing in the budget window. I'm unable to reconcile my checking account at the moment and, while I'm able to enter new transactions with existing budget categories, they disappear from the transactions window the moment I click save. Is there any way to view all the budget categories in the transactions window?
