BTXE version: BT/Linux 2.60XE/Beta-XH6 GCC/i386
for: Linux i386

My config:
Intel Pentium-100MHz
64Mb 60ns EDO RAM
PCI Motherboard, 256Kb cache, on-board I/O (16550A serial ports)
CirrusLogic GD-5430 PCI VGA Card
Realtek 8139 & Realtek 8029 PCI LAN cards
AsusTek SB16-compatible sound card
External UsRobotics Courier ISDN
Linux i386 (tried kernels v2.2.12 & v2.2.15, both modules & compiled-in serial
drivers)
egcs-2.91.66
glibc-2.1.2

My BBS actually runs under Win98 using McMail as mailer. But I'm trying to set up a fully working BBS system under Linux, so I choose BinkleyTerm/XE...

When using BinkleyTerm in UnAttended mode I get garbage from the modem instead of "RING" (#CID=0) or "RING xyz" (with #CID=1). Look in "garbage.txt" for a cut'n'paste of a part of it. Seems random characters. After receiving those characters ALT+I correctly initialize the modem...
Call-outs in BT works OK. Every other program works ok (eg. minicom sees correctly the RINGs, DOS Terminate works ok, incoming & outcoming PPP calls ok (using mgetty + pppd), and so on...). I tried virtually anything: 2k4 - 115k2 baudrates, enabling/disabling CID, just every possible Courier-ISDN configuration, tried setting "low_latency" with setserial, tried using other serial ports (even a 16450 ISA add-on card!) Tried two kinds of Init/PreInit (see binkley config), tried running BT as "bbs" user or as "root". Maybe something wrong in serial I/O routines?
