New version problems

    A few observations:

    1) Memory usage. With 5 torrents on the list BT++ was using 31 meg of RAM. This seems a *bit* excessive.

    2) "Pause all" from the tray doeasn't seem to work

    BUT

    it's really looking great.

    Thanks for the prog.

      Well, the new version looks sharp, that's for sure. I've experienced a few problems, but nobody else is reporting them, so maybe it's something you can help me with on my end.

      1. This may be my own confusion, but you can only download 2 files at a time? Could the grid at least show the other files you've clicked on and show them as "queued"? Or, maybe it's supposed to, but on mine they are invisible. When one file completes, then suddenly the next one shows up.

      2. This brings up another issue...one of the ones that "showed up" after I canceled a previous download was already half-done. So perhaps it really had added (I set my options to allow more downloads and more hashing), but wasn't showing in the grid.

      3. I've started several downloads with this new version. None of them has completed. They all get to around 0.2% complete and just stop downloading. They continue to upload just fine. As a result, they never shift to the History tab to complete and keep uploading. And until I "cancel" the download it doesn't appear that it's started another queued selection.

      When I select these unfinished downloads with the regular bittorrent client (btprefetched), they fired up and completed within no time.

      4. This is probably more of a wishlist item, but is there a way to clear the log?

      Thanks for all the great work. I'm looking forward to this version working because it makes it much simpler to leave items available for upload than to have a bunch of individual window clients scattered across my task bar!

      @1/2:
      Your "half-done-problem" looks to me like, those torrents get added just fine, but are not shown, due to a bug in the grid. I'm just guessing here, but I suppose the off-screen buffer doesn't get resized and thus the torrents are draw... but on a area, that's non-existant.
      How are you adding the torrents? By just double-clicking on them?

      @3:
      That's strange... never had this problem before.

      @4:
      I've added a button. Expect to see it in CVS this evening.

      1) After copying the file from TEMP to the final directory it remains in use.

      2) Double clicking on links don't always load into BT++ grid. shutting down then restarting usually solves that problem.

      I have torrent files A,B,C,D,E in the torrent dir.

      I start up BT++ -- the grid shows torrents A,B,C,C,E

      The size is right for the first three and the last torrent. The second C has a different size.

      They ALL start to download.

      Shutting down and restarting sometimes solves the problem

      The log shows the correct torrents added

      These are the things i have had fun with :o

      * Items downloaded from BT++ can not be executed while still uploading (history) whereas could be in the original bittorrent
      * Items removed from the "history" folder while bt++ is open causes the history button to be forever depressed
      * In the history window while uploading the status displays that it is downloading
      * In the transfers window clicking or moving the mouse rapidly causes screen to flicker (maximized only)

      SirElvis,

      Thanks for your reply. (I'm the poster with the numbered issues - I guess I should register! :-)

      I agree that the items not showing up are probably a grid issue. Just wanted to let you know what I'm seeing. I haven't pursued it much farther.

      Strangely enough, I added 2 additional files (by clicking on the .torrent link on a web page) and both of them went to completion. So, I'm not sure what happened with the one's I mentioned. I haven't been able to reproduce that problem again (getting to 0.2% done and no farther).

      Usually I add files by clicking on them from a web page. I don't think any that I mentioned were added by double-clicking a torrent file in explorer.

      I would agree with most of techwid's posts above. I've seen all of those things as well. A lot of flicker on my screen. (GeForce2 GTS, 30.82 drivers, Win2k SP2, DX 8.1 -- if that helps any)

      Still, don't take any of this negatively. It's a great app!

      I find the best way to control the memory problem right as you open BT++ is to make sure "Automatically start new downloads" is unchecked.

      Another bug, the help feature doesn't seem to work at all.  Don't need it, but was playin around and just noticed it failing to work anymore.  Anyone else getting that ?

      If anyone has .2% remaining with 0kB/sec down, that's not BT++'s problem, or BT for that matter.  It all depends on the seed.  There are a few people who whenever they make torrents and make it resume (seed) it only goes to 99% for them...  The new version of BitTorrent should fix this little bug/problem.
