#78 bttest memtest failure to detect all cases

the memory test executed in bttest seems to detect only
some cases. as an additional symptom the bttest sw
fails to load on btnodes with external memory removed.

this is a hint that the bttest sw does not compile
cleanly without external memory support, even though
this should be the case (operational paradigm).
