For those that haven't heard about it yet, Ohloh [1] is a site dedicated to categorizing, analyzing, and tracking software projects. While BRL-CAD has been indexed and tracked there [2] for some time now (we were one of the first), the statistics are continually updated and expanded upon. Among those recently updated, Ohloh found that more than 17 people have directly contributed to BRL-CAD in the last 12 months. They mention that "[t]his is a relatively large team, putting this project among the top 10% of all project teams on Ohloh." There are presently about 430,000 project teams on Ohloh.

Ohloh also understandably and correctly notes that BRL-CAD is predominantly written in C. More specifically, they note that "[a]cross all C projects on Ohloh, 20% of all source code lines are comments. For BRL-CAD, this figure is 28%. This high number of comments puts BRL-CAD among the highest one-third of all C projects on Ohloh. A high number of comments might indicate that the code is well-documented and organized, and could be a sign of a helpful and disciplined development team."
So we're apparently doing pretty well documenting our source code. As noted in an earlier message, we're also doing relatively well with BRL-CAD documentation in general with more than a million words written to date. That said, our discipline has unfortunately not extended well towards making regular news announcements, which is something I'm looking to improve upon with this new year. As such, you can expect to see considerably more announcements about our ongoing activities, past and new, over the upcoming weeks and months.
